This is a Mommy + Me Session I did last year. I asked this beautiful mama to share more about her experience of the session, because sometimes as parents I think we can build up in our minds how difficult it might be to do a photoshoot with our kids, let alone 6, with one having Down Syndrome. I adore this family and the patience and love all of the siblings have for their brother Felix with Down Syndrome (follow his story here).
"Our experience with Rachel was fantastic. It was the first time we ever met and I was a tiny bit worried about how the experience was going to be with our large family of mom + dad and our six kiddos. One of which is an exceptional toddler son with Down Syndrome who I knew might not be very interested in sitting still for a photo, I gave her a heads up, but honestly she is so welcoming of others I don’t think she would’ve had an issue with our family dynamics. She took the stress away, with kids running in different directions and some eager to explore the river the location of where our shoot was. She went with the flow. At one point I think she noticed my frustration with my own kids and said 'don’t worry, I will work with this.' She did exactly that, she captured our family so well. What I envisioned as chaos with six kids under 11 she turned it into a family moment that we will treasure. Is she fun? Absolutely! Does she have an eye for her surroundings? YES!!! Our oldest kept wanting to go in the river and she captured a photo of her by the riverbed that I didn’t even know she captured and it’s stunning. Rachel is a great listener, she listened to what I envisioned for the shoot and she listened to the movements of our family during the shoot. I can say you will totally be surprised in a wonderful way when you see the images she captures."
